Master of "busy-ness" instead of "business!"
You sit on the phone, at your computer or in meetings ALL day- everyday
Barely time for a brief break and back into another session
Answering emails, making calls, on video conferencing, meetings
Yet you know that you are not staying on top of all that you need to focus on
Day-in and day-out
Hard enough to stay up with business and then there is your personal life
Keeping up with industry news and trying to squeeze in more
But the hours, days and weeks keep slipping by
But you are stuck in the same role and place
Still not seeing the needle moving in your career
And you don’t know why
You are amazing at what you do
(or so you thought-- because, naturally you start to doubt yourself)
You are dedicated
And yet you see others zooming past you
Talking about their new roles or new initiatives that are career building
And you might feel like sometimes, you may just throw in the towel
But you keep on going
Here’s the harsh truth
Have you heard of Einstein’s definition of insanity?
“Doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results?”
Well..I hate to break it to you...but it’s like you have arrived where you thought you would never be
Because, believe it or not “Busy-ness has taken over your “Business” and there is no end in sight.
What you DO need to focus on is tackling the problem at its core
Going to the root of it and looking at it face on
And believe it or not, 99% of the times, it’s a little tweaking or new insight that can make the difference
But you do not know what seminar or convention to attend,
What “tweaking” you could make that would really make a difference
You DON’T know how to communicate WHY you are the BEST option out there (you might not think you are the best option...which is part of the same core problem)
If you ask for help you may appear weak to others
After all, you are the one others come to for solutions!
Is there anything else you can DO to make a difference?
You know down deep that you have untapped value - just not sure how to surface and use it!
So the next time you feel frustrated about hours going by without serious results
Take a good long look at what you are doing and ask yourself:
Am I REALLY approaching leadership in a way that will make a difference?
